Tarot is a card game that originated from Northern Italy during the Italian Renaissance around the 15th century.  It consists of 78 cards that can be divided into two categories:

The word arcana means secret. The Major arcana consists of 22 cards, numbered 0-21, and represents spiritual themes and karmic life lessons. The Minor arcana consists of 56 cards which are divided into four suits: wands, cups, swords, and pentacles. Each suit consists of 14 cards, numbers 1-10, including four Court cards: Pages, Queens, Kings, and Knights. Each suit represents a different aspect of our True Self. For example, Wands represents our intuition, Cups reflect our emotions, Swords signify our thoughts, and Pentacles symbolize our physical body, including finances.

Together, these cards offer guidance into specific situations, as well as serve as a tool for self-reflection, helping to bridge the gap between the conscious and subconscious mind.
